The Arc de Triomphe is a monument that honours those who fought for France and died in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. Spanning 150 feet and 162 feet in height, this triumphal arch gives visitors a deep insight into the history of France.
The arch was originally commissioned by Napoleon Bonaparte, and took over 30 years to complete. Designed with Neoclassical features of Roman architecture, it also has stunning sculptures on each of its pillars. An emblem of French victory, it sees nearly 2 million visitors annually.
About Arc de TriompheOne’s first impression of Arc de Triomphe is of awe; measuring 164 ft in height and 148 ft in width, it towers over the city’s landscape and is prominently visible from a vast distance. It follows a neo-classical design and is said to have been partially inspired by the Roman Forum’s Arch of Titus. The most prominent highlight that sets Arc de Triomphe apart are the engraved names of fallen warriors on the inside surface of the arch. At the bottom, you will find the Tomb of the Fallen Soldier where a flame of remembrance is rekindled every evening.
Perhaps the most inviting point of visiting the Arc de Triomphe is the view from its rooftop. Located right in the heart of Paris, visitors are treated to a splendid panoramic view of the city from the rooftop. To get to the rooftop, visitors will need to climb up 280 steps, which lends a deeper insight into the monument’s construction and history of French wars. Since the structure is seated in the middle of a plaza from where 12 avenues lead out, it lends the impression of a large star and further enhances your viewing experience.
