- Historical significance: This neoclassical masterpiece is the original burial site of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, before they were moved to the Basilica of Saint-Denis.
- Madeleine cemetery: Originally the resting place of those killed in a violent stampede during Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette's wedding, the royal pair were buried at the Madeleine cemetery after they were guillotined. They were buried in individual graves and their bodies were placed in beer before being covered with lime.
